LEGO® 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile: features, fun facts, and display case for LEGO®

LEGO® 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile: Gotham's 1992 icon returns in a spectacular collector's edition

Black, extremely long, aggressive, and instantly recognizable. Of all the interpretations of the Batmobile to appear on the big screen, the one from Tim Burton's cinematic universe still holds a special place in the imagination of Batman fans.

With the new LEGO® DC Batman 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile, LEGO returns to that very vehicle, this time focusing on the version featured in Batman Returns, the 1992 film starring Michael Keaton once again as Bruce Wayne.

The result is an 18+ display model consisting of 2,269 pieces, measuring an impressive 45 cm in length, designed primarily for adult collectors. But the real surprise lies beneath the bodywork: at the press of a button, the side sections separate to reveal the Batmissile, recreating one of the most memorable transformations seen in the film. It is the first LEGO® Batmobile to integrate this feature.

One detail that makes 76355 much more than a new interpretation of an already familiar vehicle: this time, LEGO chose to recreate a specific feature of Batman Returns and turn it into the very heart of the building experience.

Batman Returns: when Gotham became even darker

In 1992, Tim Burton returned to the Batman universe after the huge success of the 1989 film.

Batman Returns brought Michael Keaton back to the screen as Batman, alongside two characters destined to become unforgettable: the Penguin, played by Danny DeVito, and Catwoman, played by Michelle Pfeiffer.

Gotham City also became even more Gothic, theatrical, and surreal.

The Batmobile fit perfectly into that universe. Its extremely low, elongated silhouette, large front air intake, sculpted sides, and enormous rear exhaust gave it an appearance closer to a machine from another era than an ordinary automobile.

LEGO itself describes the vehicle as a fundamental component of Gotham's visual identity under Burton, characterized by a Gothic and Art Deco aesthetic.

And it is precisely this stage presence that set 76355 seeks to recreate in bricks.

LEGO® 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile: official features

The model belongs to the LEGO® DC line dedicated to adults and is clearly designed as a display set.

The official technical specifications are particularly interesting:

  • 2,269 pieces
  • recommended age 18+
  • 45 cm long
  • 17 cm wide
  • 10 cm tall
  • an exclusive Batman minifigure
  • detailed cockpit
  • opening canopy
  • transformation into the Batmissile
  • display stand for the minifigure.

The dimensions are substantial without reaching those of some enormous collectible LEGO® models. Its 45-centimeter length primarily preserves the extremely elongated silhouette that characterizes the cinematic Batmobile.

The model became available in early access to LEGO Insiders members on September 1, 2026, while general distribution began on September 4, 2026, with an Italian list price of 209.99 euros.

The real star: the transformation into the Batmissile

It is probably the most important detail of the entire set.

In Batman Returns, the Penguin manages to take control of the Batmobile. To escape through an extremely narrow passage, Batman activates an emergency mode: the vehicle's side sections are removed and the central section transforms into the ultra-thin Batmissile.

LEGO decided not to limit itself to aesthetically representing this sequence.

In set 76355, the transformation is genuinely integrated into the model.

At the press of a button, the two sides of the Batmobile separate, revealing the central structure of the Batmissile. By using some additional elements, it is therefore possible to complete the vehicle and choose whether to display the Batmobile in its traditional configuration or in its transformed version.

It is a particularly interesting solution because it introduces a mechanical component into what remains, first and foremost, a display model.

The development of the mechanism also hides an interesting detail: LEGO designer Henrik Andersen explained that he drew inspiration from the mechanism used for the Jakku Quadjumper model when designing the Batmobile's separation function.

Three new elements created specifically for the set

To achieve the desired result, the LEGO team did not limit itself to using only existing elements.

During development, three new LEGO elements were created specifically for the Batmobile, the Batmissile, and the new Batman minifigure.

It is an important detail because it demonstrates how much the design was developed around the specific shape of the movie vehicle.

When working on a car characterized by such long, curved, continuous surfaces, maintaining a convincing silhouette using only modular elements is one of the main challenges.

The result aims to minimize visual interruptions in the bodywork as much as possible, using numerous smooth black surfaces to preserve the elegant and menacing appearance of the original.

A cockpit worth examining

The attention to detail is not limited to the exterior.

The roof provides access to the cockpit, where we find the steering wheel and several control panels inspired by the equipment in the movie car.

It is one of those details that can easily go unnoticed once the model is placed on a shelf, but that contribute to the overall experience during construction.

LEGO designed the set so that interest would not be focused exclusively on the outer bodywork: as you move closer to the model, details emerge that refer directly to the film.

And some are deliberately hidden.

Six Easter eggs hidden in the Batmobile

The set contains six Easter eggs that fans can find during construction. LEGO has officially confirmed their presence, turning the assembly into a small hunt for cinematic references as well.

Among those already identified, we find a reference to the Penguin inside the cockpit and the device used by his men to interfere with the Batmobile, both connected to the events of Batman Returns.

It is a particularly suitable choice for a model aimed at adult enthusiasts: some details do not necessarily need to be immediately visible once construction is complete, because their value also lies in the moment they are discovered.

A new Batman minifigure dedicated to the 1992 film

Alongside the Batmobile, we find an exclusive Batman minifigure.

A pre-existing variant was not simply inserted. A new element dedicated to the movie costume was developed for the set, including a new molded cape that wraps more closely around the minifigure's body and attempts to reproduce Batman's distinctive silhouette from the 1992 film.

The minifigure can be placed on a dedicated stand bearing the name Batman Returns, turning it into a small independent display element beside the vehicle.

It is a solution consistent with the nature of the set: the protagonist is not simply placed in the cockpit, but becomes an integral part of the model's final presentation.

76355 and the previous LEGO® 76139 Batmobile: two similar, but not identical, models

At first glance, it is inevitable to think of the LEGO® 76139 Batmobile 1989, released in 2019.

The visual connection is obvious because the vehicle used in Batman Returns also derives from the famous Batmobile introduced in Tim Burton's previous film.

The new 76355, however, is not simply a reissue of the old set.

LEGO modified numerous areas of the bodywork, using smoother surfaces and updating several side and rear details. Above all, however, it built the entire project around the transformation into the Batmissile, a feature absent from the 2019 model.

For a collector who already owns the 76139, therefore, the new set may have a different meaning: it does not necessarily replace the previous Batmobile, but specifically represents the vehicle and one of the most characteristic sequences from Batman Returns.

A set made to be displayed

Once construction is complete, it is difficult to consider LEGO® 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile an ordinary LEGO® set.

Its 45 centimetres in length, predominantly black bodywork, and extremely low silhouette create a model with a very strong visual impact. LEGO itself explicitly presents it as a display piece intended for the home or office.

And it is precisely at this stage that the collector's relationship with the model also changes.

After spending several hours building it, the goal is not to dismantle it or put it back in the box: it is to find the best way to make it the centerpiece of the collection.

How to protect LEGO® 76355 with a LEGO® display case

An almost entirely black bodywork has an obvious aesthetic advantage, but also one small enemy: dust is immediately noticeable.

Furthermore, the Batmobile's distinctive shape, with its many angled elements, openings, and mechanical details, makes thorough cleaning more challenging than it is for a model with simple surfaces.

A display case for LEGO® 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile therefore helps protect the model while simultaneously turning it into a true collector's display piece.

A plexiglass display case for LEGO® reduces dust buildup, limits the risk of accidental contact and impacts, and allows the vehicle to be viewed from different angles without having to handle it constantly.

With a model this long, it is also important to leave the correct amount of space around the vehicle. A display case should not look as though it was built exactly around the set's perimeter: leaving a few centimeters of breathing room helps showcase its silhouette and also provides the right space for placing the Batman minifigure with its stand.

A background dedicated to Tim Burton's Gotham

For those who want to go beyond simple protection, the display can become an integral part of the model.

The Batmobile from Batman Returns is strongly connected to the aesthetic of the cinematic Gotham City: monumental architecture, a nighttime atmosphere, fog, cool lighting, and an immediately recognizable Gothic character.

A LEGO® display case with a background can therefore recreate that atmosphere without interfering with the model.

The goal should not be to fill the space with elements, but to build a setting capable of bringing out the Batmobile's black bodywork. A nighttime urban environment inspired by Tim Burton's Gotham allows the vehicle to remain the centerpiece and makes the entire display much more cinematic.

LEGO® 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile: a model for true collectors

The new set stands out because LEGO did not simply re-create one of the most famous Batmobiles in history.

The transformation into the Batmissile, the six Easter eggs, the detailed cockpit, the new elements developed specifically for it, and the exclusive minifigure demonstrate the intention to create a model deeply connected to the 1992 film.

With 2,269 pieces and a length of 45 centimeters, it is also large enough to become one of the highlights of a collection without reaching the unwieldy dimensions of some higher-end LEGO® sets.

For fans of Tim Burton's Gotham, Michael Keaton, and iconic movie cars, the LEGO® 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile therefore represents a particularly successful blend of LEGO® building, cinema, and collecting.

And once the last brick has been placed, protecting it with a LEGO® display case makes it possible to complete what this model was clearly designed for: being displayed.
